Conceptual Work
This is a collection for my conceptual work primarily done throughout my university degree. They explore themes of Gender, Feminism, belonging and mindfulness.
Psychiatrist Carl Jung coined the idea of Shadow work as a way of examining and scrutinizing the dark and hidden repressed side of one psyche. This work uses tropes common in film to unfold a narrative of a woman releasing this repressed side.Inspiration was taken from “yellowjackets” (2021) and Robert Eggers “the vvitch” (2015). Both are part of the folk horror genre and follow women's descent into madness and violence.
Female rage is a contemporary concept explored in film relating to women's reactions to patriarchal oppression and situations that they are forced to endure because of it.
Through the tropes of 1950s and 1960s horror, this work explores gender roles.
