Rage
My project explores the concept of female rage and its portrayal in horror films. Female rage is a contemporary concept explored in film relating to women's reactions to patriarchal oppression and situations that they are forced to endure because of it. I aim to create an abstract narrative with these six images by depicting female protagonists’ descent into madness and rage. As a result, the images resemble film stills and appear to be snapshots from an existing film. To achieve this, we researched and implemented existing cinematography techniques during shooting, along with shooting in 16:9 aspect ratios. The bold blue and orange pays tribute to contemporary horror films such as David Robert Mitchell’s (2014) It Follows, and also A24 films. We will be moving away from slasher and more into folk horror and taking a more abstract and nuanced approach to female rage in the future.
